Sydney

Tuesday, November 29th, 2005

I had a big weekend. Friday I went to Buts Birthday, that was good. The belly dancer wasn’t as good as last time, but it was still a good evening. Saturday morning I was off to Sydney with Mel for a wedding. We met Mels parents and brother at Sydney airport at about 9. We were stayed in a Hostel in Newtown, just off King Street. That was a pretty hip little suburb. We taxied our way to the church for the wedding ceremony in the arvo. The wedding was for Mel’s cousin, Damian, who now lives in Singapore. His wife was from Singapore and her immeadiate family had come out for the wedding. They were going to have another wedding when they returned to Singapore this week. So I got pretty drunk, and talked to some relos. It was all good. There was a Brekky BBQ at the grooms parents house in the morning, and we then kicked on to the Airport that was only a short distance from their house, we killed a few hours there before our group slowly dwindled as people left for Coffs Harbour, Brisbane, and Tamworth and then Melbourne. Good weekend, but not I am totally wrecked. I think I’ll need to go to bed early tonight.

Tupperware and Belly Dancers

Friday, November 25th, 2005

Mel is having a tupperware party tomorrow evening, so we’re busy cleaning the house. Well she is. I mowed the front lawn earlier this evening, the back lawn is still sporting a nice 1 foot tall turf. Tomorrow evening I will be attending Big Buts’ birthday party, Turkish style. Last year we encounted some crazy belly-dancing, hopefully we’ll see some more of that shit. Looking forward to it.

Microsoft Rules

Thursday, November 24th, 2005

Just returned from the Microsoft SQL Server 2005 launch. Man it blew. Or maybe my opinion is drunkley skewed. I’ve never seen so many obese computer nerds. Not your average geeky nerd, but full on drink-8-litres-of-coke-a-day nerds. At least there was free pizza and beer. I drank my fair share. And I am sure those fat guys ate their fair share too. Well, I was that launch for nearly 3 hours, and I didn’t even get to see their new products at all. I’ve got no idea whats going on.. I got a free t-shirt… Tomorrow I’ll proudly wear my new MSDN t-shirt to work. I dont think so.

Blah Race

Sunday, November 20th, 2005

Paulius and I went racing yesterday. Even our trip to Lysterfield was full of adventure. Firstly there was a big stack on the Monash Freeway, so we were in a traffic jam for a while, wondering if we were going to get there in time. Secondly, we took the wrong road to get to Lysterfield Park, we took Wellington road instead of Heatherton Road. And because of this detour we almost crashed into someone. This was due to those workmen that hold those Stop/Slow lollypop signs when theres road works. Well, this stupid bogan woman wasn’t holding the signup high enough. I mean its a pretty simple job, you’d think she’d be able to do it properly. So Paulius and I can hooning over a crest, to see what appeared to be a stationary vehicle in the middle of the road. Paulius then slammed on the brakes and we skidded for about 50 metres, stopping just before the stationary car. We started laughing and the woman told us that it wasn’t funny. Stupid ho. Anyway, Paulius and I got to Lysterfield in time and we started our race at 9. We started off by running in the wrong direction, we managed to catch up to the majority of the pack over the next 15 minutes. When clamping the second checkpoint I was lucky enough to kneel on a bull-ant, which it turn stung me, which hurt for the rest of the day. On our first kayak leg we rediscovered how much we hate those inflatable kayaks. The suck so much. It was hard not to donuts, because they dont have a keel/rudder. We got to the mountain biking stage which was good, but the sun had now come out and it was getting hot. We found ourselves pushing the bikes up more hills than we were riding up. I think I got sun stroke cause I was feeling weird all afternoon. So we weren’t really feeling that competitive, but we still managed to finish in our normal time, which is just under 4 hours. But we dont know as yet what our final position was, I am guessing its going to be crap.

Donut Day

Saturday, November 19th, 2005

Today was donut day. Had a nice custard filled donut for morning tea this morning. Very tasty. Coding rocketed along at work today, very productive. Purchased a 40 gigabyte hard drive for my laptop today. The 4 gig drive that came with it finally died. I am reinstalling Red Hat 9 on there now, i’ll upgrade to Fedora Core tomorrow. I have to install Red Hat 9 first, cause I can only boot to a disk. Theres no CD drive in my laptop (Compaq M300, 333Mhz). Its a pretty old computer, but hopefully I can get fedora to run on it ok, maybe using XFCE as the windows manager, its pretty light on resources. I just want to be able to code on it, while I’m on the train. The big race is tomorrow, back to Lysterfield Park, the location of our first adventure race just over a year ago. Paulius is picking me up at 6am, so I better get to bed soon. I’ve marked off my race items list, 24 items in all, and I’m all set. Wish me luck, Paulius doesn’t need any luck, he’s fit.

Thursday, 1 Day till Max Adventure

Friday, November 18th, 2005

Tomorrow is Friday. Donut Day. Steve and I have lots of coding to do tomorrow to make sure we have a build ready next week for some Singapore IBM dudes. Hopefully all goes well. Saturday is Max Adventure. Paulius and I have to do some kayaking, running and riding as Team Confundo once again. Hopefully my bike tubes will last a little longer than the last race. Lysterfield park isn’t as rocky as the Wombat State Forest course so it should be good. Forecast says its going to rain, so I guess we’re going to get pretty wet. Last time this race started off with a swim/kayak so we got drenched anyway. I’ve decided that I might dose up on a few paracetemols on Saturday, during the race. My knee always seems to start acheing at the wrong times. Drugs will fix it. Anyway, I better go and check my equipment list to make sure that I’ve got everything for the race. I might buy some of those dodgy plastic rain coats tomorrow just in case they check we’re carrying them.

Sat down to watch House tonight on the projector with DVB, but DVB is rooting up on my linux box, may just be a reception issue. I’m planning on getting some info up on how to get the Avermedia 761 DVB card working, since I had issues setting it up originally, especially knowing where to place the firmware once i found it. I had just ot it working with my Hollywood Plus MPEG decoder card too. Hopefully I can get it working again, I may have to recrimp my coaxial cable that runs from the antenna. As you can see below there is a picture of a wet pussy on my blog. Thank the guys from the office for their special messages. And yes I did remember to throw the Sun mouse in for you Astro. So long bitches.

Blog Tuesday

Wednesday, November 16th, 2005

Tonight was pub night, notable missing persons included Al, Felicity, Prue and Snowy. We talked about shit, mainly bagging this Blog. I could see the utter disgust on Kate’s face when she found out that I had a blog. This wasn’t helped by”Burgers” talking about nerdy Microsoft shit for half the evening (Hi Burgers – I know you read this nerd boy). I think we nerded her out. Anyway Mark said he was going to buy a house. but he has said that every day I’ve seen him for the last 12 months so I have little faith in his statements. We decided not to go see a movie tonight. And thats the end of the chapter.
