Hot

Saturday, January 21st, 2006

Man, I am literally sweating my ass off here. Its been 40 degrees here today, I think it should cool down soon though, looks like theres going to be storms. Anyway, I didn’t really accomplish much today, cause it was so hot. I did go bike riding in the city last night though. That was pretty good fun. Four of us started out at 10pm and road till about 12:30, we stopped at a few bars and had some beers. Cause it was quite warm there were heaps of people out and about. I took a few pictures, i’ll try and collate them onto peterdamen.com. Tomorrow its going to be 41 again, guess I’ll stay inside and play xbox all day.

Sheepyard

Tuesday, January 17th, 2006

I have returned from my 4 days in the bush. In the end 15 of us ended up going. It was hot with cloudless skies everyday, and we occupied our selves with reading, swimming, fishing, walking and games. The road in and out of Sheepyard was very dodgey as predicted and I drove Mels poor car at about 40km/h towing our little overly-full trailer. I managed to somehow flatten Mels car battery, possibly because it didn’t get started for a few days, and I charged my phone off her battery for a few hours. Fortunately I was able to make phone calls out of there, although I had to climb a hill to get reception, and even then I could only send messages. I was able to make calls by holding the ariel with my arm to extend its range, but that was fairly dodge as well, and my arm went numb after a few minutes. Now that the holiday period is over, I have nothing fun to look forward too for many many months… even though Paulius and I are planning a trip to Arrapiles sometime this summer.

Holidays are here.

Eight of us are off to Sheepyard flat tomorrow. We are going to try and fit 3 trailer loads of junk into our little trailer tomorrow morning. Hopefully the trailer will perform nicely. Just loading some movies and mp3s onto my laptop, just in case nature gets to boring. I have a little FM transmitter that will help amplify the audio via a little CD player we are taking. Unfortunately theres no way to enhance my puny 11 inch LCD screen on my laptop. I could take my projector.. but that would be stupid…. and I’m not going to plug it into my inverter until I get a UPS. A few more people will come up for the weekend, which will be ace.

Productive Saturday

Sunday, January 8th, 2006

Got lots done today. Went to Bunnings and bought some mulch and fertilizer for the garden. Also bought a hoe and a bow-saw (which we managed to loose some where between the checkout and home). I also cleaned the car and the garage. I attempted to buy a new spare tyre for the trailer, but I’ll have to go to the wreckers and find a compatible rim first. Hopefully tomorrow Paulius and I will be able to give my new kayaks a bit of a go in the local creek. I also had a look at some VB code today that analyses Stunts Replay files. I was thinking about porting the code to PHP so I could have people upload their replays for different tracks and then generate a highscore list based on submissions. I’ll have to have a think about it… Anyway Goodnight. Have a good Sunday.

Running

Saturday, January 7th, 2006

Paulius and I have been running the last few nights. Its been good. I have also been using the rowing machine every night as well, just for a few minutes. Anyway this week has been slow at work, getting back into the groove of things after the Christmas and New Years break. Anyway today, amongst other things, I got my Quickcam Messenger USB webcam running under Fedora. I setup Motion which acts as a webcam server, security motion sensor and timelapse video recorder. Its pretty cool. I’d like to get another USB camera to setup a few more angles. I think my dodgey digital camera can work as a USB webcam. I’ll have to see if I can set that up on linux too. Anyway, my web cam can be seen here . I might make it nicer and promote it to peterdamen.com in the next few weeks. Other important news is that its only a few days to our trip to Sheepyard flat. That should be good fun, its been a while since we got to use all our camping gear. If there is sufficent CDMA reception up there I’ll try and blog over my phone. Anyway, I’m lying in bed blogging on Mels laptop, cause I’m waiting for her to finish her chapter. Good Night.

Last Week

Thursday, January 5th, 2006

Last week was Christmas/New Years. I spent the week in Tamworth with Mels family. We drove up to Tamworth on the Friday before Christmas, driving the 1200km in a day. We stopped off at Coonabarabran to see my Uncle and Aunty and cousins. We had Coonabarabran chinese for dinner. We arrived in Tamworth at about 10. Christmas consisted of Christmas lunch and gift distribution around the Christmas tree. Unfortunately the weather in Tamworth was crazy hot, 39 nearly everyday. I spent most of the day inside in the air conditioning. We also went to Bingara to see Mels grand parents. It was hot up there too, but i managed to get a few bike rides in. Mels parents were also nice enough to give us their kayaks. I had to buy some roof racks to get them home, but they should be fun to use. Bewyeah.
