Internet Famous.

So flew back in to Melbourne this morning. and was picked up from the airport by Mel, came home and went to bed. At about 4pm I got up and checked my email. Amongst the truck loads of spam, I noticed an email about my Ajax Remote Desktop program that I wrote a few weeks ago. and then some more similar emails, and then even more. Quickly reading one, it appeared that Digg.com had an article about my program. I checked my webstats and noticed that my little website has recieved 20,000 hits in the last 2 days. So I’ve got a few dozen emails to respond to now, most requesting source code to my program. Any way, if only Internet Fame made me rich…

Ok, So I haven’t posted anything for a while. Currently I am sitting in my Hotel room just across the road from Wellington Airport. Its raining outside and crazy windy. Apparantly its going to snow down to sea level tonight on the south island. I have a busy 48 hours so far. I caught the plane over here on Monday night which got me into Wellington at midnight. I stayed at this Hotel Monday night and went and picked up a rental car Tuesday morning. I then drove north for 2 hours to Palmerston North. I was very surprised to see a mountain range full of snow (Mel and I hadn’t seen any snow on the North island when we were here last). The sky was blue, and these peaks were covered in fresh snow, and some of the foothills looked like they had had some snow the night before. I tried to take some photos/video while I was driving but I dont think I did a very good job. Anyway I had two long days worth of work attempting to install our software at the clients premises. I was able to get the software installed, but we had trouble connecting to the clients Progress database. Progress must be one of the worst databases… ever. Anyway the clients run a full linux shop. All the servers are linux and most desktops in the organisation are linux too, pretty awesome. Looks like ubuntu is the weapon of choice. I gave the Ubuntu live CD a burl on my new laptop and it worked superbly. New laptop you say… Yeah I have got my new Dell 640M, its pretty good, but it has too much new hardware and Fedora had trouble finding drivers for a lot of things, I had to do some kernel compiling, but that only made a few extra things work. But Ubunto… everything was working sweet, even the short-cut buttons on the front.
Anyway, I have to get up at 4am tomorrow to get to the airport at 4:30 for my 6 o’clock flight. My room has been upgraded to a spa room cause there wasn’t enough standard rooms left, so I might go take advantage of it. Anyway, have a good one. I’ll post the dodgey video I have taken onto the web at a later date,..

Nigerian Fraudsters

Well, I had my camera for sale on ebay. I was estatic on Sunday morning, when someone had bought it for the Buy It Now price of $700. Unfortunately things got worse from then on. They buyer emailed me to say that she lived in the US and wanted to send her daughter the camera in Nigeria. This was ok, I rang DHL and got a quote for sending a package to Nigeria, it was like AU$231. I told her that it would cost this much and that I was awaiting payment. She didn’t respond for a few days until I got a message saying that she had paid the money into a escrow account at PayPal and that I would get my money when I had confirmed the Shipping ID of my package. I don’t think this was going to happen. Anyway I have just found out that her ebay ID has been unregistered. So I have just emailed Ebay the story so I can get my camera relisted nice and quick. Anyway if there is anyone out there rich enough to send a parcel to Nigeria just for fun, feel free to post a nice warm terd to:

Nothing exciting happening really. I have managed to get my 4GB MMC card on ebay, and my PAL SVAV-100 hopefully I’ll get some bidders soon. Today I wrote an AJAX VNC (like) viewer in Java. Works fairly well, considering the mechanisms it uses for data communication. I’ll put it in the Downloads section tomorrow hopefully… I just need to tidy it up a bit. Tomorrow I will order my new laptop. I’m going to ring Dell up to see if I can not pay for Windows, since I’ll be installing Linux on to it. I doubt they’ll ship a laptop without an operating system on it. Those bastards. I decided to hasten my laptop purchase a little because work is sending me to New Zealand in two weeks, and I don’t like the thought of having to use my M300 in public. I have to go to Palmerston North, which is a bit out of the way – as in I have to drive there from Wellington, but I’ll get to see a bit of the country side, so that’ll be ok. It’ll be all new scenery, as Mel and I didn’t pass through Palmerston North when we were in NZ two years ago. Anyway, I’m going to bed. Go and buy my video camera off ebay, you peterdamendotcomian, you.
