I have been out and about the last few days. Friday we drove to Nyah, near Swan Hill where we camped for three nights. It was my first big trip in the Defender (except for the drive back from Newcastle). The usual suspects were at the Murray, the Hatt’s, the Shulz’s, the Anderson’s and the Wagenfellas, and my family too. I spent my time Kayaking and learning how to drive the Defender. I managed to get my Defender bogged, as I was misinformed by Mark on how deep (and muddy) a certain ditch was… anyway we managed to dig our way out. On Monday we drove to Tamworth, via Hay and the Newell. The road via Hay was so long and boring. Surprisingly I was happy to see West Wylong, even though I hate the place because my old XD falcon exploded there a few years ago. We got to Tamworth on Monday night about 11ish, after stopping in to see Joy and Hannah in Coonabarabran. We’ve spent the last 2 days in Bingara, visiting Mel’s Nan and Pop, very disconnected from the world, with no GSM mobile coverage or Internet. I have clocked up about 30 hours of manual driving now.. I think I am nearly confident. Here is a photo of my Defender parked on the Hay plains… nothing for miles..
