FCK

Friday, May 11th, 2007

I’ve just added the FCK Editor to my blog poster. We’ve used FCK at work, embedded in our App for a while.. But I’ve inserted the latest version in to my Blog script.. It is pretty much a WYSIWYG editor that is written in JavaScript. It means I can change fonts and colours without to much effort. Its pretty sweet. I still need to implement the image handler for it though. I need to change it so I can store images in the DB rather than the filesystem.

My blog has been out of action for a while because my webhost changed their version of PHP, or changed the php.ini, or something.. But anyway.. I couldn’t post without inserting data into the database manually. Some session code in my script had actually been deprecated.. It took nearly 5 days for host support to reply to my question… and even then they had no idea what was going..  I am in a habit of finding a really good webhost, then they get bought out, and they become completely crap.

So I still have a bit to write about, that I couldn’t write before. I was in Cebit Sydnet last week. I’ll try and write something about that soon.

Last Tuesday, I had my 4 wisdom teeth removed. One of them had a huge hole in it and it was starting to decay the nerve; very painful. I must have been given exactly the right amount of anethestic as I woke up fine after the operation, just with a numb jaw. The guy in the recovery bed next to me wasn’t looking to good though; he looked completely wasted. I had the next two days off work to recover (Wednesday was a public holiday). I managed to code a Java remote control for my Xbox Media Center in the days I had off (download it here)

Fiesty Fawn, the newest version of Ubuntu was released this week as well. I have installed at home, at work and on my laptop. It seems to be fairly good. The new kernel seems to recognise a little more hardware than before (my Quickcam Messenger now gets detected without having to compile drivers). Gnome also includes the Compwiz, for Desktop effects. It makes windows stretch as you drag them around, and it does some crazy transparency stuff. Unfortunately it stuffs a few things up, it breaks Swing Java GUI Apps, and is sometimes unstable; but it looks cool.

So I typed out a few words last night, but I took too long and my PHP Session expired, even though I copied my post, I managed to stuff it up, and lost all my text. So I will try to remember what I wrote and re-post.
