Welcome to Canada.. French-Canadia

Monday, October 6th, 2008

I have been Canada for 1 day now. I am working here Monday-Friday. I spent most of today walking around Ottawa, taking photos and visiting the local museum.

The flight over was fairly painful. About 20 hours of flight time. Close to 30 when you include transit times. I flew Melbourne to LA, which was late and made me miss my connecting flight. I was supposed to then fly LA-Chicago-Ottawa, but I ended up flying LA-Montreal-Ottawa. Montreal to Ottawa was only a 28 minute flight and was on a Dash-8.. a small 30 seater prop plane, which was interesting.

I didn’t realise that French was so prominent over here. I tried to speak to a Canadian woman who was sitting next to me on the plane.. and she didn’t speak English. Everything is duplicated in both English and French.. Signs, Building names, the text at the museum.

Here are some photos from my trip so far..

Mount Stirling

Ok. I am in Canada now.. but I thought I would post about my hike to Mount Stirling with Paulius and Jacqui. We camped at the bottom of Mount Buller, near the gate into the resort at Mirimbah. We slept next to my Defender.. It was fricking freezing. In the morning we hired snow-shoes… but we didn’t end up putting them on all day… our hiking shoes were good enough.

There were excellent views from the top. I think we hiked about 12 km. It was fairly hard work, but it was fun, and we got some good photos..
